May Events DiaryWhat a busy month May has been so far. As I write this Cologin is enjoying yet another sunny day away from the madness of Oban town center. With two bank holiday weekends in May and several local festivals Oban has been jumping. Events really get going in May and in the last few weeks we’ve witnessed the Oban Sportive cycling event, Three Peaks yacht race, several cruise ships, the Oban and Lorn Drama Festival, Highland and Islands Music and Dance Festival, the Rib Rendezvous,...
So as promised in our last blog, Jim and I have been 'missing in action' for the last few weeks - cruising around South America and crossing the Atlantic ocean (and the equator) leaving Katie to get on with all those winter jobs that always take longer and cost more than planned! And Easter was early this year, so bless her she has been working hard this Spring. Most tasks involve improvements to infrastructure (upgrading water and wifi, repairs, renewals and replacements to lodge interiors and exteriors) but...
As 2023 rushes towards an end let's take a moment to look back over the past 12 months. Katie is now firmly established as the 'face' of Cologin and customers certainly appreciate her calm 'can do' attitude. We are of course delighted she’s here so we can finally relax and enjoy our retirement. Expect to see a lot less of us in 2024! Julie and Angus have also made The Barn their own and feedback has been wonderful. They’ve put their own stamp on the iconic heart of...
We're keen to maximise opportunities and move with the times and post-pandemic we've seen a big increase in the number of campervans and motorhomes visiting our site at Cologin. Whilst we've always been happy to welcome self-contained motorhomes the limited parking for the Barn Bar was really not the best place for them. This season we've used the area at the entrance to the site that had previously been levelled for Katie's wedding marquee and with an AIRE certification from CAMpRA this new parking ground is ready for...
So just for fun I thought I'd try out Google's AI chatbot. Called Bard - the chatbot generated the following copy in response to my prompt to produce a Spring blog for our website! (Please note, the sentence I've highlighted is factually incorrect - there are two museums in town - Oban's War and Peace Museum - and the 1745 House Museum at Dunollie. Other than that Bard has made some sensible Spring suggestions.) Spring Break in Oban: The Perfect Getaway Spring is a wonderful time to visit Oban and...
Whilst most folk come away on holiday for a break from work, for some, volunteering for a worthwhile cause or local community project is an essential element of their holiday. They say 'a change is as good as a rest' and with an increasing number of our guests now opting to lend a hand at nearby Historic Kilbride or any number of other volunteering opportunities that are in and around Oban, we've decided to act more pro-actively to encourage and facilitate working holidays for anyone that's interested. Oban...
The Battison Clan will be be gathering for a family Christmas this year - the first for several years with zero restrictions! Whilst we all know that Covid has not gone away, for most people it is now part of the usual round of winter bugs, colds and flu, and long may that continue. I've never been one for fairy lights and tinsel but with so much economic gloom in the forecast I caved early and put my tree up well in advance of previous years. And...
As the days shorten and the temperature drops we're offering some great Winter Warmer deals on short breaks at Cologin. If you've spotted our 3 night offers with 5pm or Itison and you want to book direct then just drop us an email or fill out an enquiry form. We have always maintained a 'price match promise' on our website so you don't need to book through a third party to get a better rate. Booking direct means you can request a particular lodge or go 'off...
