Oban Winter Festival

Oban in Winter
The end of the busy summer season usually heralds a return to a slower pace of life for locals. (And what a busy summer it was with the first-ever visit of the round the world Clipper yacht fleet in July.) This year, the visitors just kept coming as Oban hosted the MOD in October and Cologin became home from home for two competing choirs. The skirl of pipes and the harmonious voices of our Gaelic singers brought a special charm to Cologin and The Barn and we look forward to welcoming these regular guests back when the MOD returns to its spiritual home in a few year’s time.ย

November looks likely to continue the trend for Oban’s ever-extending season. The Oban Winter Festival 2024 kicks off on 15th November with 10 days of family fun. This is the 13th year of this celebration of Oban’s unique culture and community. Events range from street parades, winter markets, musical and performance acts, crafts, pipes and competitions (including the hotly contested Golden Haggis). The Opening Parade this year will be led by OBANDA – join in the fun and enter the fancy dress competition (theme is Oceans and Seas) and everyone is asked to gather at the Corran Halls on 15th at 4.45pm.ย  Friday is also the opening night for the Winter Woods – a self-led, family-friendly walking trail through Glencruitten Woods to admire the many unique installations all made from recycled materials and again on the theme of Oceans and Seas. The events programme stretches to 40 pages so we urge you to download directly from the Oban Winter Festival website.

We’ve a winter deal offering available to those who’d like to come and stay at Cologin so check out our availability and book online. You might even get to meet Coolio – the Winter Festival mascot in person as he makes an appearance at every event in town.
