Please download the welcome folder as it covers every aspect of your stay at Cologin in detail. (We are now also leaving a copy in our properties.) If you’ve not yet booked and you’d like a quick resume of what we offer and the dos and don’ts read on. And do check the FAQs as this answers the most frequently asked questions that may arise once you’ve read the information below.
Reception: is no longer operated from the Barn Bar. During Covid DIY check in was introduced and it has now become the norm for our guests. We provide check in details by Whatsapp via your mobile (or by email if you prefer) and of course we live at Cologin and will check that all is well when you have arrived.
Parking: there is space for one car at each property at Cologin and overspill parking in the main pub car park or within the park itself. Please do not park on the grass.
Refuse: every property at Cologin has an outside bin and we empty bins on every change over. You are welcome to use the large bins situated in the main car park but please recycle bottles using the bottle bank at Tesco and sort your rubbish using the containers provided for paper/card etc.
Electricity: there is no need to ready your meters – we have already done this as we monitor usage. Please be respectful of the environment and do not waste energy.
Quiet Times: we ask that you are good neighbours and respect other guests by keeping noise to an absolute minimum between 10pm and 8am. We do NOT welcome rowdy groups and noise, nuisance, loud music, offensive language or anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. Please do not leave pets unattended in any property for more than a short period of time. It is not fair on your pet and a stressed animal will not only bark and disturb other dogs, but they may cause damage for which you would be liable.
Dogs: are welcome everywhere on a lead and under control. Please remember the law in Scotland differs from the rest of the UK. It is a serious offence to allow your pet to worry any farmed animal and the maximum penalty is a fine of £5,000 or imprisonment for 6 months. Please don’t risk this and be a responsible pet owner when walking your dog on neighbouring farmland.
Logs and charcoal: we provide a bag of logs for the wood burning stoves in Cruachan and Cologin Farmhouse. Logs can be purchased in advance or during your stay for the wood burning hot tub. BBQs can be ordered free of charge subject to availability, but we do not provide charcoal. Please ensure that disposable BBQs are used only on the ground and never on decked areas or on patio tables. We have a large calor gas BBQ and a hog roaster which can be booked for large groups.
Smoking: is not permitted in any property and we ask that you remove all cigarette butts from grounds and decking to avoid excess cleaning charges.
Fire pits: we have a couple of fire pits we can lend out as unfortunately the terms of our insurance do not allow guests to build and light bonfires in any circumstances.
Restaurant and Pub: the Barn Bar is now open all year but winter hours will be restricted. Please remember that the Barn is operated by Julie and Angus as a separate business. Whilst we work closely with them and occasionally offer joint promotions, they run their business their way. Follow them on Facebook to keep up to date with their latest plans for the Barn Bar and their current opening hours.
Walking tours: our resident yellow badge guide will be happy to arrange a private walking tour of Oban town centre or nearby Historic Kilbride. You can also walk through the field next to the Barn Bar yourself to visit the kirkyard and if you have a smart phone with a QR reader there is a self-guided tour of the graves and key features at this atmospheric ruin.
Please do get in touch if you have a question that is not covered in our FAQs.
Finally could we please ask that you read our Responsible Visitor Charter – we would appreciate your cooperation.
