Highland Games and Gatherings
The summer months are whirling by and it’s been great to see a full calendar of Highland Games, local agricultural shows and events taking place across Argyll. The Taynuilt and Inveraray Games have been and gone and the Battison/Ross families managed to get a day away from the business to enjoy a day out. This weekend sees the Lorn Show return to Benderloch after a two year absence. I had challenged my new son in law to a baking challenge but as time flies by I am unlikely to produce anything for the competition tent so it looks like he will win by default!
Later this month the Argyllshire Gathering takes place in Oban and I hope to accompany the stewards and follow the Oban Pipe Band on the march from Station Square to the show ground at Mossfield Park. Next month the Dalmally Agricultural Show will be celebrating its centenary year so expect some extra activities at this popular event held each September on the village shinty field. Sadly, another firm favourite for our family – the annual World Stone Skimming competition – has once again been cancelled due to the ongoing challenges of Covid. We hope it returns bigger and better in 2023.
If Highland Games and Agricultural shows are not your thing, don’t worry. There’s plenty of other events and activities taking place this summer across Argyll. Have a look at the local events diary – Oban What’s On and social media for Love Oban.ย And if you’re interests are more arty than outdoorsy then download a copy of the Argyll Art Map and follow the red dot Studio trail with opening dates from 20-29 August.
