Festive Greetings from Cologin

As 2023 rushes towards an end let’s take a moment to look back over the past 12 months. Katie is now firmly established as the ‘face’ of Cologin and customers certainly appreciate her calm ‘can do’ attitude. We are of course delighted sheโ€™s here so we can finally relax and enjoy our retirement. Expect to see a lot less of us in 2024!

Julie and Angus have also made The Barn their own and feedback has been wonderful. Theyโ€™ve put their own stamp on the iconic heart of Cologin and we feel blessed and so lucky to have them here. They are now part of the Glen and firm favourites with both locals and visitors alike. Hogmanay Dinner will allow Angus to show off his culinary skills as we bring in the New Year with a formal dinner, ceilidh and our traditional bonfire and midnight fireworks. Keep a look out on Instagram as I am sure the social media stream will be in full flow! (Obviously nothing to do with us – Katie has full control of all our marketing channels.)

Over 2023 we spent many thousands upgrading our infrastructure to ensure our accommodation met the new legal standards for Scotland’s Short Term Let (STL) licence. As our lodges were already licensed under our premise licence this wasn’t strictly necessary, but it was worthwhile. We just hope that STL license dos not damage Scottish tourism as it has significantly reduced the number of self-catering properties in the West Coast. Sadly the Scottish Government hasn’t finished with us yet and a tourist tax has been passed (the Visitor Levy). We await further details but it won’t apply until 2026 and we hope by then it will have been significantly amended to suit regional needs.

So onwards and upwards as they say! Happy Hogmanay to all of you and best wishes for the New Year.
