Craggy Island is Back!

One of Scotland’s most popular triathlons is finally taking place this October after a Covid break.

The award winning Craggy Island Triathlon takes place on the incredible unspoilt Hebridean island of Kerrera, off Scotland’s stunning West coast, and just a few miles from Cologin. Unique in the UK and possibly the World, the race starts on the mainland and contestants swim to the island to complete the rest of the race!

Once on the island the bike and run sections of the triathlon take place and these are entirely off road. This was because previously Kerrera did not have any roads, but this year construction has begun on a road grade track to connect the communities of the North with the South of the Island where the island’s ferry docks. The pedestrian ferry service operates from Gallanach (just over the hill from Cologin) Oban and spectators are welcome to travel over to Kerrera to watch the races and explore the island.

The event is a fundraiser for the Oban Mountain Rescue Team (approx. £5 from each entry is donated to them), and the Kerrera School House Community project (£1 from each entry is donated – the project aims to restore the islands’ old schoolhouse to become a community hub).

Craggy Island Triathlon is brought to you by the team behind Durty Events (www.durtyevents.com) and there are several entry categories from solo racers to relay teams of 3 (one for the swim, one on the bile and the other running).

As usual we will be hosting a few competitors at Cologin. The race itself is always a sell out and this year’s long awaited return is no exception. Good luck to everyone taking part – fingers crossed for calm waters for the swim and good weather for the bike and run races.
