The Barn @ Cologin – Scottish Pub of the Year 2014 and 2015
The Barn is at the rustic heart of Cologin and it is so much more than just a pub. Describing the Barn’s unique ambience is not easy – suffice to say that once you’ve been you will return! The Barn is run for us by Mary Macleod. Mary was born on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides and she has been head chef at the Barn for several years. As an islander Mary understands the importance of supporting local supplies and using local produce and during the main season The Barn serves homemade, wholesome lunches and evening meals with blackboard specials including local seafish and shellfish specials as Oban is the Seafood Capital of Scotland.
The Barn is proud to have retained our VisitScotland ‘Taste our Best’ quality award for the Scottish provenance of our ingredients. Good local food is very important; so too is the Barn’s unique atmosphere with its original slate cattle stalls, real ales and great whisky collection, friendly staff and local musicians (who play regularly throughout the year). The Barn has won many well-deserved awards and citations over the years and you’ll find the pub mentioned in the most discerning guide books including ‘CAMRA’, ‘Scotland’s Best Kept Secrets’, ‘Scotland The Best’, the Herald Newspaper ‘Good Pub Grub’ guide and the ‘Good Beer Guide. The Barn Bar is the 2014 Scottish Pub of the Year for the North West region 2015 Scottish Gourmet Pub of the Year for the North West region and the CAMRA Scottish Pub of the Year for Argyll – a huge honour for a wee rural pub and testament to the hardwork and commitment of all the staff.
Locals from Lerags and other nearby farming villages are loyal Barn patrons. Many have become firm friends with Cologin regulars over the years and they are a great source of local knowledge and information. If you’re not sure what to do and where to go someone in the Barn will point you in the right direction! The Barn Bar was chosen as one of Scotland’s ‘A Story to Tell’ pubs because of our connection with Mick Jagger and other celebrity guests. Just ask a local at the bar to tell you the full story!
If you would like to guarantee a table for dinner please contact The Barn direct on 01631 564618. At quieter times of the year it’s normally possible to make arrangements on arrival and during the week you should be able to keep your table beyond 90 minutes as long as it is not re-booked. During weekends, (even in the winter) if you want to be sure of a table please remember to book in advance.
We are a rural country pub and in the winter our hours can vary so please check before you book if you want to be sure that the Barn is open for dinner.
We also welcome private functions and large group bookings for dinner all year round and will open up for a private function during the winter. In the winter we also offer themed dinner, bed and brunch packages – St Andrew’s Night, Burn’s Night and our Xmas Parties are always popular – so do ask for details.
